Boston-based Animatronique's music is similar to artists like Sigur Ros, Jim O'Rourke, and The Books, straddling the worlds of acoustic and electronic music. Layers of guitar combine with electronic textures and various samples to create a world of unique and atmospheric soundscapes.
Animatronique's debut album “Stasis” is an independently released collection of post-rock instrumentals that run the gamut from peaceful and introspective to distorted and pugnacious. Recorded and engineered by local producer Chris McLaughlin (Aberdeen City, Mean Creek, Township), the album is furnished with haunting samples, ethereal electric guitars and dynamic percussive elements, while the acoustic guitar is the nucleus of each piece.
Perhaps the best examples of what this recording offers are the tracks “Greener Grass,” “Little You Little Me,” and “Aloysius.” The latter of the three is a bluesy vamp that incorporates a live drummer (Andrew Dole: Bon Savants/Mystery Roar/Bang Camaro) and ghostly electric guitars, while programmed beats and acoustic finger picking dominate the somber mood of “Greener Grass.” “Little You, Little Me” is a poetic love song that ends with a symphony of guitars, providing the album with it’s most epic and beautiful theme.
