John Thorpe’s approach to Didgeridoo World Music is subtle, intimate and powerful. Influenced by Australian traditional and contemporary techniques and dance music, his versatile style of play is energetic, rhythmic and musical. Using solo didge with clapsticks, shaker, drum and occasional keyboards, John creates deep, powerful instrumental tracks, often hypnotic, tribal or dramatic, to the more melodic or ambient, with tracks like Deep Water, Into The Abyss, Surfs Up, Moving Sands, Didge Dance - conjuring up moods of Sun, Sea and Surf to more Off-the-Cuff beat-tapping grooves.
John Thorpe is an up & coming player, whose didgeridoo music is becoming more acknowledged. From busking to bars, he has performed at various venues including charity events, BBC Radio, including a performance at the International Didgeridoo Music Festival. He is also an artist listed on the DidgHeadRadio station. John’s didge craft making skills and his background in sound engineering give him the edge in sound quality and recording. He has recorded two albums so far: Out The Back and Off The Cuff. The diversity of John’s solo and mixed tracks lends itself well to that primordial ’Australian Sound,’ whilst also crossing the genre to more upbeat acoustic dance music.
